Update on Dad and Kate

An update on Dad: He is feeling much better today. I bought him some sunscreen. He has to wear it all the time, as his anti-rejection meds make it so he is more susceptible to sun and also the cancers it can cause. Ask him if he's wearing it when you see him! (He'll LOVE it, REALLY..ha.)

While I am able to be here in Roseville for a few more days, I'll be making some face-to-face contacts with businesses and individuals who may be able to help do some fundraising!

Do you know anyone who would want to donate money, products or services to help us raise funds for the National Foundation for Transplants? (See earlier post on the blog: Friends for Terry )

If you or anyone else would like to be involved, we'll be:

1--Trying to plan a golf tournament (in Metro Detroit area...if anyone loves sports, or knows someone with tournament experience please let me know!)
2--Having some auctions
3--Soliciting general donations.

If a business wants to donate, we'll definitely promote them on this blog and at any event they choose to sponsor or donate toward.

Katie:
Kate has come home from the hospital. All tests that they ran (CAT scans, MRIs, EKG, EEGs, Doppler tests of blood vessels/heart) have come back negative. Nothing to show. No tumor, no aneurism, no other scary things. Something did, indeed, happen with her brain. They found a "spot" on it; the doctor who discharged her says it could have been there for a while (!); they did tests for Multiple Sclerosis, and those have not come back yet. She is to follow up closely with her doctor. Apparently they think that a viral infection could have caused a minor stroke! So, we'll be researching some more; one of her friends said he did find that this is possible, doing some web research.

She feels much, much better; however, with unanswered questions, we are all very nervous! We'll be keeping a very close eye on her.

Thanks for all of your attention and support.

Short update...Fundraising, Dad and his daughter

Quick update. Dad seems to be doing somewhat better after three days of super-steroid treatments, but feeling kind of crappy. Keep him in your thoughts, and give him a call when you can.

More news: Today we found out Kate -- Terry's daughter, Kate, who has been taking care of the bulk of his bills and doing a lot of things for him (along with Terry, his son)-- has had a minor stroke. She is currently in the hospital, and they will be running many tests on her until they know exactly what has happened.

Needless to say, since Dad cannot go to the hospital (due to his suppressed immune system), he is really having a harder time with this. Mom is also even more extended than usual, so if you can, please give her your love and attention. The rest of us (his mother, sister, me! and more...) need your love, too.

On another important front: As you may remember, the non-profit set up as Friends for Terry is not really a non-profit fund, yet. If you made a contribution, it is not tax-deductible. However! We have found an organization that we will be working with that IS a non-profit, so that all donations will be tax-deductible; also, they will help us fundraise and -- best yet -- they disperse funds that Dad will need.

Stay tuned, but here is a link to the organization: National Foundation for Transplants. Many of the links were not working last i was there, but try it out. Look at "Find a Patient" to see what we'll be listed under.

When we have Dad's profile up and running, we'll let you know.

If anyone would like to be part of the Volunteer Fundraising Committee for this, please email me! sfrikken@yahoo.com

Take care, and thanks for being part of this!
